It was a hot sunny afternoon on August 5th, I had just left summer classes and was on my way home. I tucked my feet into the same familiar steel toe clips and unlike most days forgot to wear my bike helmet. I had a 12 mile ride ahead of me. Long distance cycling was my talent and I was particularly careful to wear a helmet most days. But for some reason I forgot it.
In 2002 I was throw from a horse, broke my back in six places, and suffered a concussion. I was brought to the hospital and given iodine for a cat scan. Unbeknownst to me then, I was allergic to iodine and my heart stopped while I was in the cat scan.
On the morning of 10/25/01, I called in sick to work. It’s not that I felt sick; I just didn’t feel completely right. So, I stayed home and rested. In the early evening (about 5:00 p.m.) I went with my husband to an event that we already had tickets for.
