I wonder if it was a sunny day? Could it have been a cloudy day? Certainly it wasn't a rainy day, the day I decided to take my roll of film to the Latin Quarter to have it developed. I'd never have ventured into the rain on a Vespa—I had more sense than that. It must have been a good day; Patrick and I would go on a picnic in the afternoon. But the afternoon never came. I can only deduce that I was going to the camera shop from the fact that a roll of film was found in my jacket pocket. At least that's what someone said sometime later.
I spent the first 40 years of my life as an "equal opportunity hater." I was filled with an underlying anger at everyone, including myself. My life had no real direction or purpose except for the gathering of possessions.
Before any of the following experiences I was, and at times can still be, a hard-driving business man. I did not have time for "off the wall" thoughts or agendas. I own a consulting business that requires me to be on my toes constantly. I never had the mind set nor the compulsion to consider what dying meant.

Around 1980 I fell and broke my back. I crushed three vertebrae and chipped two in my neck. It's been 30 years of worsening pain year by year, and the need for disability since age 55. Previously I had been a Pastor/Evangelist in the Charismatic and Pentecostal arena. I had many gifts of the Spirit that operated through me for years, so I think that is helping me with the spiritual side. In other words, I didn't wake up freaked out over the energy of the Spirit; however, this is different from what I had experienced for 30 years.
