In 1981 I went into the hospital for arthroscopic surgery to repair damage in my left knee from an accident I had almost 10 years earlier. I had waited a long time to have this kind of non-invasive surgery until it was more perfected. I knew recuperation would be so much faster and gentler than the alternative of undergoing the major patella type offered at the time of injury. I had no idea that the day would change my life forever.
I am a liver transplant recipient, and my NDE was the result of complications from an initial operation.
They decided to take a liver biopsy as other tests failed to find why my condition was deteriorating so rapidly. This went horrendously wrong. The probe tore a gash in the side of the liver and punctured my right lung and diaphragm. This resulted in my death for six minutes.
This is my amazing NDE. In my late 20s, I was in the neuro-intensive care unit of the hospital for bleeding in the brain and I told the nurse, "I need to see a doctor; something is worse. This is the worst I've ever felt in my life!" She told me, "I think you're just having an anxiety attack" and left the room. I knew she was wrong. All of a sudden, I saw three men in white robes standing at the front and sides of my bed. They looked as though they were on fire with a one-inch flame around their bodies. I was terrified because I wanted to help put the fire out, but I did not know where to find the fire extinguisher! I realized these guys were not even in pain or distress, and I thought, "Wow, this is really strange." Then I looked at the fire and realized it was brighter than a thousand suns but you could stare at it without hurting your eyes. Yet, it didn’t light up the corners of the hospital room. Although I did not recognize their faces, it was as if I had known them my whole life and we were good friends.
I was sitting in a bar, drinking and smoking with my biker buddies. We were out partying on our Harleys. Then it happened. I got weak and started sweating. The brothers saw me fading and asked what up? Told 'em I needed to go outside for some cool air. Went out and sat on the first bike I saw which is a big no no, but I was fading fast and I needed to sit. The world started spinning and I hit the dirt.
My spirit left my body and I traveled toward the light through the galaxies. When I entered the light I entered what I can best
describe as a universal, sublime and unconditional love for all of creation impossible to describe with human words. My NDE seemed to unite Judaism and Christianity in a perfect harmonious sequence. All beliefs important to both Judaism and
Christianity were presented before me. The father sitting on his throne and the son sitting on his throne judging the nations. There is much, much more.
